About Beacons
Beacons is a creator platform that helps content creators aggregate their content, monetize their work, and grow their fanbase. Its core product is a personalized landing page — the "link in bio" that creators use to connect audiences to everything they offer. Since launching in 2021, Beacons has grown into a comprehensive business platform serving millions of creators.
The problem: creators needed custom domains but couldn't set them up
Beacons recognized early that creators wanted the branding power of a personalized domain on their landing pages. The challenge was that the setup process was painful. Customers who wanted a custom domain had to purchase one from a third-party registrar, then navigate DNS records, nameservers, and hosting configuration to connect it to their Beacons page.
For most creators — people focused on content, not infrastructure — that process was a dead end. It generated support tickets, caused drop-off, and shifted complexity onto the people Beacons was trying to help. Becoming an ICANN-accredited registrar wasn't realistic. The team needed an end-to-end solution they could ship fast.
The process took two weeks from start to finish — from when we started looking for solutions to when domains became available on our site.
The build: live in one week
With straightforward instructions and direct support from the name.com team, Beacons launched its integrated domain experience in one week. By incorporating the name.com API into its existing interface, Beacons enabled creators to search, purchase, and connect domains — including extensions like .bio, .community, and .video — without ever leaving the platform.
The power of in-product domains
Bringing domain purchase inside Beacons changed the platform's positioning. With in-product domains, Beacons became a true end-to-end solution for creators — not just a link-in-bio tool, but a comprehensive business platform.
We can position ourselves as a one-stop shop for our target market because we now can offer everything they need. That sets us apart from other providers in our industry.
Since incorporating domain search, purchase, and setup into the platform, paid accounts have tripled. Gaining access to a descriptive domain like .bio or .live is a primary reason customers on free plans upgrade to paid subscriptions, and revenue from custom domain sales has doubled since the initial integration.
Domains also drive retention. By tying an important branding asset to their Beacons subscription, creators with custom domains are more likely to renew — contributing to a 15% increase in customer lifetime value.
Domains and reseller solutions have helped us grow our user base, revenue, and LTV.
