name.com report: Digital Identity in the Age of AI

We surveyed 1,120 decision-makers and interviewed 12 industry leaders on how AI is reshaping development. The short version for API partners: as AI drives down the cost of dev work for end users and startups, domain registration is becoming a bigger part of the product.

.dev registrations grew 8x in 2025, 77% of professionals expect domain name importance to increase due to AI, and platforms like Vercel, Replit, and Lovable are already embedding domain search and registration directly into their publish flows.

If you're building a product where users ship sites or apps, the data backs the investment in a domain API integration.

Filter availability results by purchase type

Check Availability and Search now accept an optional purchaseType filter parameter. Set it to registration to return only domains available for new registration โ€” useful if your search UI doesn't need to surface transfer or renewal results alongside fresh registrations. Omit the parameter to get all types, same as before.
